As well as the high street shops, a must is a visit to Dumfries Museum and Camera Obscura and the Robert Burns Mausoleum, Scotland’s most famous poet spent the last years of his life in Dumfries. Not far from the town is Caerlaverock Wetland Centre, a spectacular 1400-acre wildlife reserve which will keep you busy all day, no matter what time of year. Beautiful south west Scotland is a dream destination from historical sites and supreme mountain biking to challenging hill walks and some of the darkest skies in the world, not to mention over 200 miles of stunning and dramatic coastline with secluded little bays and sandy beaches.
