For over a century, it was home to Hutchison and his descendants, including Isobel Wylie Hutchison, an adventurous Arctic explorer and botanist. Isobel's contributions to the castle and its grounds are significant; her expeditions led to the introduction of rare plant species, and her artistic talents flourished as she documented her travels in publications like National Geographic. Following World War II, her writings helped fund vital repairs to the castle, which had served as a wartime RAF base.
