Kirkliston Castle

Edinburgh, Midlothian

18

Kirkliston Castle, located just outside of Edinburgh, Scotland, is a magnificent venue set within 32 acres of beautifully manicured parkland. This exclusive use property, which can accommodate up to 18 guests in its nine bespoke bedrooms, seamlessly blends contemporary heritage with exquisite interior design and a remarkable art collection. The castle is not only a luxurious retreat but also an ideal setting for family gatherings, corporate events, and spectacular celebrations, having earned accolades such as being ranked among the top three venues in Europe by The International Hotel Awards and recognized by Grazia Magazine as one of the Eight Best Wedding Venues Worldwide.

Originally built in 1852 for Thomas Hutchison, a prominent wine merchant and Provost of Leith, the castle was designed by renowned Scottish architect David Rhind. For over a century, it was home to Hutchison and his descendants, including Isobel Wylie Hutchison, an adventurous Arctic explorer and botanist. Isobel's contributions to the castle and its grounds are significant; her expeditions led to the introduction of rare plant species, and her artistic talents flourished as she documented her travels in publications like National Geographic. Following World War II, her writings helped fund vital repairs to the castle, which had served as a wartime RAF base.

The castle boasts an array of opulent entertainment spaces, including a serene Orangery, a bespoke marquee complete with a marble-topped bar and crystal chandeliers, and various grand rooms adorned with lavish furnishings and art from over 25 countries. Guests can enjoy the luxurious accommodations, featuring cloud-like handmade beds, bespoke cabinetry, and ensuite bathrooms equipped with handmade roll-top baths and underfloor heating. Additionally, the Private Suite, named The Isobel, offers stunning views of the walled garden and spacious living areas, making it a perfect retreat within the castle.

Conveniently located just 20 minutes from Edinburgh and 10 minutes from the airport, Kirkliston Castle is an excellent choice for travelers. The surrounding area offers numerous attractions, including Edinburgh Castle, Stirling Castle, and the Scotch Whisky Experience, all within a short drive. For those seeking additional accommodations, the Gate Lodge and The Stables provide extra rooms, expanding the total capacity to 26 guests. With its blend of historical charm, modern luxury, and an array of amenities, Kirkliston Castle promises unforgettable experiences for all who visit.
