Location map of 'Widemouth Bay' Blue Flag certified beach
Widemouth Bay is a wide, easily accessible beach located 3 miles south of Bude. The characteristics of the site make it an excellent family beach and a location popular for waterbased activities and rockpooling. Widemouth retains its natural characteristics and charm yet benefits from creature comforts being very close at hand. There are also a couple of vantage points in the area boasting spectacular views of the beach and the dramatic Atlantic seascape.Widemouth is often broken down into two areas, which are often split with the incoming tide. The main sandy beach on to the north of the beach is referred to as Widemouth Sands but is also locally known as Trelawny Beach. The south side of Widemouth is often referred to as Black Rock, so named as a result of the large stack that sits out prominently on the beach and the north side of the bay. These two separate areas of beach are only separated during high water by a spine of rocks in the centre of the bay, otherwise the beach is of considerable size
