Morfa Lodge

Porthmadog, Gwynedd

6

Morfa Lodge, a delightful holiday cottage located in Porthmadog, Gwynedd, offers a unique blend of historical charm and modern comfort, accommodating up to six guests in its three bedrooms. Originally built in the early 1800s by William Maddox, the founder of Porthmadog, this property served as the old coach house and stable block for a nearby manor house. With its antique furnishings, including a beautifully carved dresser believed to be a dowry from 1806, and stunning woodwork handcrafted by the owner's father, a master carpenter, visitors will feel as though they have stepped back in time.

The cottage features a bright and contemporary kitchen/diner that boasts views of the harbour and surrounding mountains. Equipped with modern amenities such as white kitchen units, a microwave, electric hob, and eye-level oven, it provides a perfect space for family meals. The spacious sitting room is designed for relaxation, furnished with comfortable sofas, a flatscreen TV, and a stone inglenook fireplace with an electric fire, creating a cozy atmosphere. A piano and a charming leaded window add to the room's character, allowing guests to enjoy the picturesque garden views.

Accommodation includes a ground-floor single bedroom and shower room, while the upper level hosts two additional bedrooms. One features a double bed with a decorative Juliet balcony overlooking the town and mountains, while the larger bedroom contains both a double and a single bed, also with a Juliet balcony that provides views of the cottage gardens. Guests can find comfort with feather pillows, which can be swapped for synthetic options upon request. The family bathroom includes a bath with a shower over, along with essential amenities.

Surrounded by a peaceful atmosphere, Morfa Lodge offers a private lawned garden with outdoor furniture, ideal for enjoying the serene environment. The property also provides parking for two to three cars. While the cottage exhibits some quirks typical of older properties, such as wobbly walls, it is filled with character and charm that may appeal to those seeking a unique getaway. Just a five-minute stroll from Porthmadog's bustling harbour and town, guests will find a variety of shops, restaurants, pubs, and attractions like the Welsh Highland Railway, ensuring an enjoyable stay regardless of the weather.
