Eskeleth

Morpeth, Northumberland

4

Morpeth, located in Northumberland in the North of England, is home to an idyllic holiday spot: Eskeleth, a beautifully restored 18th-century farmworker's cottage on the Wallington Estate. This charming cottage has been recently refurbished, showcasing a bright and airy interior adorned with warm tones and retaining many of its original features, such as exposed beams. Eskeleth was once part of the expansive farm steading of Hartington Hall, a historical site dating back to the 16th century that served as a Bastle House—defensive farmhouses unique to the Anglo-Scottish border, reflecting the region's rich and tumultuous history.

Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by a sweeping driveway that leads to the rear of the cottage. Entering through the back, guests find a welcoming hallway that leads to a spacious kitchen diner equipped with a cooking range, alongside a cozy sitting room featuring a stone-surrounded wood burner. The layout includes a twin bedroom that can be converted into a large double, complete with an ensuite shower room. A family bathroom with a shower over the bath and a king-sized bedroom are also accessible from the hallway, while a traditional front porch provides an alternative entry point.

The exterior of Eskeleth enhances its appeal, boasting a front garden with mature flower beds, a manicured lawn, and stunning views of the Hart Burn valley. The rear of the cottage features a large garden with lawned areas and outdoor seating, perfect for soaking in the picturesque countryside. Additionally, an outbuilding is available for storing items such as bicycles, catering to guests looking to explore the area on two wheels.

Guests at Eskeleth are ideally situated to explore numerous nearby attractions, including National Trust sites like Wallington, just three miles away, as well as Hadrian's Wall, Cragside, and Seaton Delaval Hall. The region offers a wealth of activities, from visiting Northumberland National Park and Alnwick Castle and Gardens to experiencing the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park. For outdoor enthusiasts, the area is dotted with walking and cycling routes, including a scenic cycle path from Wallington to Blyth and the picturesque 4.2km River Walk at Wallington, making it a perfect destination for a peaceful getaway.
