Menai BridgeMenai Bridge has a number of very good restaurants including Dylan's, Sosban and The Old Butchers, The Straits, Bocca Italian Pizzeria, The Four Crosses, Harri's Portugese Kitchen,The Bridge Inn and more. Food shopping in Menai Bridge, 6 miles from the apartment, is excellent. The high class supermarket Waitrose and quality delicatessen Stafford House are in the Main Street. More places to eat out near TirionfaHighly recommended are The White Eagle near Rhoscolyn (a favourite of Wills and Kate when he was stationed at the RAF Valley airbase) and The Oystercatchers at Rhosneigr. Both are owned by the same company - the philanthropic owners offer unemployed young people on the Island a chance to become accomplished cooks. This venture has become a great success as the restaurants prove. Ye Olde Bull's Head in Beaumaris is one of the oldest hostelries on the Island and has an excellent brasserie for lunch and dinner with a stylish loft restaurant that is open at night (booking advisable) These are just a flavour of the many excellent eateries around the Island. Llanddwyn Island and Newborough Beach and Nature ReserveWild, windswept and atmospheric - there are miles of pristine sands from Llanddwyn Island to the southern tip of Anglesey. This is one of the finest stretches of beach in Britain with dramatic mountain views, clean clear waters, woods and mythology. Llanddwyn Island is a magical place at just 1km long. It is a 20 minute walk up the beach from the new car park and is inaccessible at high tide. Stop to admire the beautifully carved pine gates. The Newborough Warren Nature reserve is a birdwatchers paradise with hides hidden in woodlands often close to tiny lakes. Look out for the red squirrel which thrive on the island. Anglesey Coastal Path and Circular WalksThe path is 125 miles circling the whole island with captivating coastal scenery and circular walks passing pre historic settlements and Roman remains all giving a flavour of a much older island. Anglesey BeachesThere are 6 Blue Flag Beaches on Angelsey. Rhosneigr is 12 miles away and is a beautiful stretch of sandy beach which kids will love. There is lots going on in the small town as well. Red Wharf Bay - One of the largest most spectacular bays on the island, approach from the coastal path through meadows and woodlands, before descending onto the bay. Enjoy the walk 3 hours either side of low tide to get the best of the sands with sea marsh, richly coloured by pinks and purstone. Benllech Beach - From Tirionfa drive down into Llangefni and take the B5110 signposted Benllech. This is a pleasant drive passing through quiet countryside and rolling farmlands. Benllech is a long sandy beach with plenty of rock pools, perfect for swimming, windsurfing and sea fishing. There are lovely views across to Penmon Point and in the distance the Great Orme in Llandudno. Traeth Lligwy and Din Lligwy - Further up along the coast beyond the delightful little fishing village of Moelfre is Treath Lligwy, another shallow sandy bay great for small children to potter in the rock pools. Near Treath Lligwy is an extremely well preserved pre-historic settlement Din Lligwy, thought to have been occupied in the late Roman period. A half mile walk through fields, the settlement is set in the centre of the woods. Visit on a summer's evening or quiet Autumn day. It’s very atmospheric and quite magical. BeaumarisThis is probably the prettiest town in North Wales with its pastel coloured townhouses overlooking the beautiful Menai Straits. A mainly Georgian High Street with an abundance of independant shops selling clothes, handmade jewellery, bric a brac and paintings Visit Janet Bell's Gallery for something special to take home! Beaumaris Castle sits romantically at the end of the high street surrounded by a moat it is extremely picturesque although never finished it is still a formidable achievement of Medieval architecture the French builders of which also named the town - Beaumaris - beautiful marsh. Plas Newydd (NT)Sitting on the edge of Menai Strait, this is a delight for keen gardeners and art lovers will be fascinated by the Rex Whistler murals inside the house. Oriel Ynys Mon, LlangefniThe Oriel in Llangefni is Anglesey's main art gallery. It houses a permanent exhibition of the works of Charles Tunnicliffe who left his priceless collection of Anglesey's bird life to the gallery. There is also the works of the much loved artist Sir Kyffin Williams R.A. on permanent display. He lived and worked on the island for most of his life and most of his work depicts the landscape and characters of the island. There is a good cafe and shop here also. Llynnon Mill and RoundhousesA trip to Llynnon Mill and Roundhouses make an interesting day out giving an unique impression of Anglesey's rural life in the recent and distant past this is a working mill children will enjoy the process of right up to the delicious fresh bread! There is an excellent tea room here and a Mill's Trail which takes in woodland and reconstructed roundhouses.
