West Winds overlooks the sea in a spectacular position at the southernmost end of the Slade Valley on the Gower Pensinsula. The house is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and is surrounded by National Trust landscapes of Special Scientific Interest (SSI). The location is ideal for families who want peace and dramatic coastal scenery; as well as those who enjoy walking and hiking, fishing, canoeing, swimming, surfing and bird-watching. West Winds sleeps 8 (with 2 extra sofa beds for occasional use) and has recently been renovated throughout in a modern minimalist style with ceramic and wooden floors. The house faces over the Bristol Channel and Atlantic Ocean within over an acre of land. The garden is mainly lawn and has some steep slopes and limestone rock faces. The large sliding windows from the living room have a stunning sea view, and open onto a patio and front lawn, that are ideal for al fresco eating and sunbathing. There is ample car parking space. From West Winds a rough footpath leads a few hundred yards down to “The Sands”, with a short scramble over the rocks to the beach at Slade. You can fish for bass as well as find crabs and lobsters in the rock pools. Because of the Gulf Stream the sea is usually warm enough for swimming from June to September, and with the right conditions surfing can be good. Further afield there is a beautiful coastal path that goes eastwards around the cliffs of Oxwich Point to Oxwich village (4 miles), and westwards across to Horton and Port Eynon Bay (2 miles). West Winds sleeps 8 people.....although there are also sofa beds upstairs and downstairs for occasional use. Downstairs there is the large living room, kitchen, 3 bedrooms (2 double & 1 twin), a modern bathroom and two showers. Upstairs there is a self-contained flat with a double bed, sofa bed, TV, small kitchen and bathroom. This flat is reachable by secure external steps with a handrail at the back of the house. Kitchen facilities: The newly fitted downstairs kitchen has an electric oven, hob and grill, kettle and toaster, dishwasher, microwave and fridge-freezer. Upstairs there is a small kitchen with a washing machine and tumble dryer. There is oil-fired central heating throughout the property. There is a telephone line downstairs and high specification Super Fast Fibre Broadband. Mobile phone reception can be patchy, with Orange offering the best coverage. The Hwam Monet wood-burning stove can only be used with logs (not coal), and we supply kindling and a bag of logs. Clean well-behaved dogs are welcome but smoking is not permitted inside the house.
Please note that behind West Winds there is a small cottage with its own drive and garden. The cottage is available for separate rental by contacting the owners.
N.B. Towels for the bathroom and beach are not supplied.
