For hillwalkers, tackling Helvellyn, one of the highest mountains in the Lake District, is a must, and the tumbling waterfalls at Aira Force (4.5 miles) are just beautiful. Historians will love exploring the rooms at Dalemain, an impressive stately home 8.5 miles away, whilst the gothic ruins of Lowther Castle, 12 miles away, are well worth a visit. Rhegad, 5 miles away, has independent shops, cafés, an exhibition centre and a large 3D cinema which is great wet weather entertainment. For some retail therapy, head to Penrith, 10 miles away and find supermarkets, independent retailers, pubs, cafes and restaurants.
