Located in the picturesque region of East Sussex, the handcrafted home in Battle offers a unique retreat for up to five guests, featuring two bedrooms. Nestled near the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this charming accommodation is designed to provide a serene sanctuary amidst nature. The structure, originally a horse truck purchased in 2016, has undergone extensive renovations, transforming it into a cozy and inviting space that emphasizes relaxation and mindfulness. The owner, who dedicated considerable effort to this project, now opens the doors to like-minded individuals seeking a peaceful getaway.
The interior of the home is thoughtfully designed to maximize its space and functionality. At the front, guests will find a double bed positioned above the cab, accessible via a fixed ladder. The lounge area features a comfortable futon that faces glazed patio doors, allowing for natural light to flood the room, complemented by a woodburning stove for warmth. A well-equipped kitchen area separates the lounge from the sleeping quarters, which includes a rear room with three bunks—two of which can be folded down to create an office space complete with a monitor wall. Additional amenities include a W.C. room and ample storage, all designed to enhance the living experience.
While the home provides a cozy atmosphere, it is important for guests to embrace its rustic charm and connection to nature. The horsebox may sway in the wind, and the sound of rain can be heard, adding to the romantic ambiance of the experience. Off-grid living is facilitated by a solar panel that powers lighting and USB devices, along with a 1000w inverter for small appliances, though it should be noted that it cannot support high-power items like hair dryers. The bathroom setup includes a flushing chemical toilet for emergencies, complemented by a composting toilet on-site, ensuring guests have the necessary facilities while being mindful of the environment.
Guests are advised of specific house rules to maintain the integrity of the space. Check-in is available from 15:00 to 21:00, with check-out by 12:00. The accommodation is not suitable for children under the age of eight due to safety concerns related to the self-built nature of the home. Smoking, pets, and parties are prohibited, and guests are encouraged to leave the space tidy upon departure. The cabin is conveniently located near local landmarks such as Battle Abbey and Battlefield, as well as recreational activities at nearby golf clubs, making it an ideal destination for those looking to explore the beauty and history of the area while enjoying a unique and tranquil stay.
