Situated near Helston, Cornwall, Lizard Lighthouse offers a unique and picturesque retreat for up to eight guests. This remarkable location, positioned at the southernmost tip of mainland Britain, provides stunning coastal views and immediate access to scenic walks. The surrounding area is rich in rare flora and fauna, enhancing the natural beauty of the cliff-top setting. Lizard Lighthouse itself is a fully operational lighthouse with a storied history dating back to its establishment in 1619. The iconic twin white towers that define its silhouette were constructed in 1751 by entrepreneur Thomas Fonnereau and were first illuminated on August 22 of that year. Trinity House took over the lighthouse's management in 1771 and continues to maintain its operations, which were modernized with electrification in 1924 and full automation in 1998. The lighthouse boasts a light range of 26 miles and features an automatic fog signal that activates in misty conditions.
Guests at Lizard Lighthouse can enjoy a range of amenities and considerations for a comfortable stay. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome for an additional fee, and families can request a travel cot and highchair. However, it is important to note that there is no WiFi available, and mobile signal is limited, although a telephone with an honesty box is provided for convenience. Due to the operational nature of the lighthouse, maintenance staff may need to visit at various times throughout the year, but efforts will be made to respect guest privacy during these visits.
Visitors should be aware that accessing the lighthouse involves navigating narrow roads with limited passing places, and the property itself is a heritage building, meaning it may not meet modern safety standards in terms of steps and floor levels. Guests are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the premises upon arrival and exercise caution. While barbecues are not supplied, guests may bring their own, provided they follow safety guidelines. Additionally, for the safety of all, fireworks, drones, and remote-controlled flying devices are prohibited, and children must be supervised at all times due to the property’s unique location and surroundings.
