About this space
A warm welcome through the traditional blue fronted door into a beautiful Grade II listed Georgian townhouse in the very heart of historic Shrewsbury.
This bright, spacious and hospitable house is spread over 5 floors and fabulously located. Just a stone's throw from the heart of Shrewsbury's 16th Century beautiful Market Square, there's a wonderful eclectic selection of award-winning eateries, shops, galleries, history to explore, festivals, theatre and vibrant river life.
The space
This gorgeous Townhouse has several spacious living areas spread across 3 floors, with bedrooms across 2 further floors. Studded with traditional Georgian features - including rose cornicing and high ceilings with coving - the beautiful old staircase forms the central heart of the house connecting all the floors.
The large sun drenched drawing room is a perfect place to gather, light the fire and share time together; curl up with a book or play games. The snug is a lovely ground floor family room with a large TV and DVD player with a selection of classics to curl up and enjoy. (The lovely old fireplace has been recently renovated and will have a log burner for guests to enjoy from late April). There's also a dedicated separate work space in the office.
4 equally well-proportioned bright bedrooms across 2 floors all have views of the remains of Old St Chad's church. Each floor has its own bathroom, the top floor with a peaceful roll top bath to immerse in.
A fully equipped large basement kitchen with a Range Master and ample table space is perfect for meals and gatherings. A utility provides extra freezer space and storage. There's a little snug sofa in the arch for comfy keeping the cook company!
The private garden terrace flows from the drawing room, perfect for morning coffee in the sun, evening drinks and alfresco dining options. With historic church spires beyond, it's a calm and delightful space.
Shrewsbury's extraordinary 1000-year history, higgledy-piggledy alleys and cobbled streets, quirky Tudor buildings, events, festivals, activities, incredible shopping and multi award-winning Market Hall, riverside walking and dining is all within a 10-minute stroll. No wonder the BBC's newest adaptation of Great Expectations was filmed here and the papers are heralding Shrewsbury as rivalling Oxford and York as a fabulous staycation destination!
THE LAYOUT:
In a traditional Townhouse layout, the spacious ground floor entrance hall leads to the snug and downstairs toilet.
Down to the basement, the kitchen and utility occupy the entire footprint of the house, with arches that lie beneath Peacock Passage housing a pantry and snug sofa seating.
Up to the first floor, there is a large drawing room with gas fire and views of Old St Chad's Church yard. This floor also has a separate dedicated office and access to the pretty garden terrace.
The second floor leads to two bedrooms, one Double and one Super King that can be requested to be made up as a Twin. These have an interconnecting door and bathroom with rain and handheld shower.
The third floor houses two further bedrooms, one with a King size bed and one with a Double. This floor has a large family bathroom with roll top bath and separate shower. All the bedrooms have lovely views across the ruins of Old St Chad's Church Yard and its mature trees.
The artist host has worked all over the world and travelled extensively, giving the house character, detail and furnishings with stories gathered along the way. New design and features are constantly being created in the house, so enjoy watching it develop through the photos!
