Esk Castle - Tower & Apartment

Angus

8

Esk Castle, a magnificent 15th-century structure nestled in the picturesque Angus region of Scotland, spans an impressive 1300 acres of rolling parkland, where both fallow and red deer roam freely. This historic castle, which has been the home of the Carnegie family for over 600 years, is perfectly situated between the scenic Angus Glens and the pristine dune-filled coastline. Offering a blend of unspoiled nature and luxurious living, Esk Castle promises guests an unforgettable holiday experience, with year-round activities such as salmon and sea trout fishing, and pheasant shooting available during the winter months. Ideal for family gatherings or groups, the castle serves as a spectacular venue for various leisure pursuits, including fishing and golfing.

The living accommodations at Esk Castle are divided into two distinct apartments, Macduff Tower and Lauderdale, which can be rented individually or together to cater to larger groups. Macduff Tower is designed to comfortably host four guests, featuring stunning views over the estate, spacious rooms that balance grandeur with a cozy ambiance, and a log fire that enhances the intimate atmosphere. It includes two generously sized bedrooms adorned with four-poster beds and en-suite bathrooms, providing a luxurious retreat with clawfoot baths and scenic views. Meanwhile, the Lauderdale apartment accommodates six guests in three stylish double rooms, with two super-king beds and one twin room, alongside a family kitchen and a welcoming social area for relaxation and dining.

Covering around 7,000 acres, the estate is characterized by a mix of arable land, forestry, and permanent pasture, all under the careful stewardship of the Carnegie family since 1400. This dedication to land management has fostered a thriving ecosystem, making Esk Castle an idyllic retreat for nature lovers. The estate is home to diverse wildlife, including red squirrels, various bird species like woodpeckers and ospreys, and features a Site of Special Scientific Interest on Rossie Moor. Visitors can explore the extensive grounds, which boast wild habitats rich in flora and fauna, as well as designated conservation areas such as the Southesk River, known for its salmon and freshwater pearls.

In addition to preserving the natural environment, the Carnegie family has embraced modern sustainability practices, including the installation of a biomass boiler and a hydro-electric scheme on the river Southesk, which generates power for the national grid. The estate features well-maintained paths and trails that allow guests to immerse themselves in the breathtaking scenery while enjoying leisurely walks or cycling. With its combination of historical charm, natural beauty, and contemporary amenities, Esk Castle offers a retreat that caters to both the tranquility of nature and the comforts of modern living, ensuring a memorable experience for all who visit.
