Stepping out onto the porcelain tiled patio you can enjoy spectacular views over the countryside, and there is comfortable outdoor seating so that you can dine al fresco on sunny days. The small village of Sleights has a pub, fish and chip shop, an award-winning butcher’s, a Victorian bakery, café, post office and convenience store. You are just next to the neighbouring village of Ruswarp which has boat, kayak and paddleboard hire, so that you can take in the scenery as well as the wildlife from the river.
The seaside resort of Whitby is less than 4 miles away, at the mouth of the River Esk, home to cobbled streets and winding alleys, a picturesque harbour, glorious sandy beach, piers and a host of attractions. Visit the abbey and its famous 199 steps, which offer picturesque coastal views from the top, and take a guided tour to learn more about the history of the town. Scarborough is slightly further afield, with its two sandy beaches, separated by its 12th-century castle, along with Peasholm Park, a spectacular Japanese landscaped park, Aplamare, an exhilarating water park and spa, a SEA LIFE Centre and the North Bay Heritage Railway.
