Riverside Cottage In Ballater (Cairngorms)

Ballater, Aberdeenshire

6

Riverside Cottage, one of the earliest buildings in Ballater, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, has undergone a thoughtful renovation that combines modern comforts with its historic charm. Initially in a state of disrepair when Karl first encountered it, the cottage now serves as a spacious and inviting getaway capable of accommodating up to six guests. This two-story home features a comfortable lounge with two large sofas and a woodburning stove, a spacious kitchen, and a garden view room that provides both dining and seating areas, alongside a cloakroom and toilet on the ground floor.

Upstairs, guests will find two well-appointed bedrooms and a generously sized bathroom. The sleeping arrangements include a super king double room and a twin room that can be converted into another super king, each equipped with bedside cabinets and wardrobes. The bathroom is designed for relaxation, featuring a built-in shower and a separate large double-ended bath. Additionally, the cottage offers a sofa bed in the garden-view room, allowing for extra sleeping space for two more guests.

The outdoor space enhances the cottage experience, with a garden that includes an eco-friendly fire-heated hot tub, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring the local area. Guests can engage in various activities such as fishing, distillery tours, hiking, biking, and even skiing in the winter months. Ballater itself boasts a range of local restaurants and cafes for dining out, while the fully equipped kitchen in the cottage allows for self-catering. An outside dining area in the secluded courtyard offers a lovely setting for meals on warmer days.

Riverside Cottage is ideally situated in a rural area surrounded by mountains, making it a perfect base for those looking to explore the scenic beauty of Deeside. Nearby landmarks include Balmoral Castle and Corgarff Castle, and guests can partake in local activities at Ballater Golf Club and the Royal Lochnagar Distillery. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate opportunities for game walks and birdwatching, making this cottage a versatile choice for a memorable Scottish retreat.
