Sandend itself is a quaint conservation village, characterized by its traditional 19th-century fishermen's cottages surrounding a ‘C’ Listed harbour. The village boasts a beautiful beach with golden sands, perfect for swimming and surfing, with a Surf School established in 2017 to take advantage of the impressive waves. The beach is a lively hub from Easter to Autumn, frequented by families building sandcastles, rock pool explorers, and surfers. The surrounding cliffs offer scenic footpath trails where visitors can spot dolphins, seals, and even orcas, while the harbour provides a picturesque setting for leisurely lunches or evening drinks as the sun sets over the sea.
For convenience, Sandend features a small shop within the caravan park selling essentials like bread, milk, and ice cream, along with a working fishhouse offering freshly caught seafood. For larger grocery needs, visitors can travel to Portsoy or Cullen, where medium-sized Co-op stores are available, or visit a larger Tesco in Buckie, located about 10 miles away. Alternatively, guests have the option to arrange an online Tesco order for delivery right to the cottage upon their arrival. Additionally, the nearby ruins of Findlater Castle, perched on a rocky cliff, provide stunning sea views and ample walking opportunities, making Sandend a perfect destination for fishing, boating, and relaxation after a day of exploration.
