Hempstead is a small, sleepy and pretty village just two miles from the picturesque Georgian market town of Holt with its selection of galleries, restaurants and independent shops. Surrounded by the rolling countryside of the Holt ridge, it is an ideal place to explore and is great for cycling, walking and birdwatching. The coast is only five miles away and the choice is quite diverse from the beaches of Cromer and Sheringham to the shingle of Salthouse and the marshes of Blakeney and Cley. The ruins of Baconsthorpe Castle can be found in the adjoining village, alternatively you could walk to Selbrigg Lake where the River Glaven rises.
