Secluded Cottage In Heart Of The Snowdonia National Park

Blaenau Ffestiniog, Gwynedd

5

Hafod Cottage is a spacious stone retreat located in the scenic hills above Maentwrog, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Gwynedd, nestled within 30 acres of private woodland. This charming cottage, which accommodates up to five guests across three bedrooms, has been thoughtfully renovated, showcasing wooden and slate floors throughout. The main living area features a large wood-burning stove that not only creates a cozy atmosphere but also heats the radiators and hot water, enhancing the comfort of the space. Outside, guests can enjoy a generous private garden equipped with outdoor seating, perfect for al fresco dining amidst the tranquil surroundings.

Accessing Hafod Cottage involves a 3/4 mile journey along a steep and narrow track, which is manageable for most vehicles, excluding low-slung sports cars. Guests are advised to contact the owners if they plan to bring a camper van, as the railway crossing limits the width and length of vehicles. Additionally, there are steps leading down to the cottage, and it is powered by a combination of mains electricity and renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power. The property encourages energy conservation, particularly with lighting, and offers hot water through an electric immersion heater or the wood-burning stove.

The location of Hafod Cottage is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts, as it overlooks the Vale of Ffestiniog, renowned for its stunning natural beauty and well-preserved wooded valleys. Guests can indulge in various activities such as walking, birdwatching, mountain biking, and swimming, with a nearby swimming lake and the Ffestiniog Railway's Plas Halt within easy reach. The charming village of Maentwrog, located just two miles away, offers two inviting pubs, while the sandy beaches of Harlech and the majestic Snowdon are both approximately ten miles from the cottage, making it a perfect base for exploring the wonders of Snowdonia National Park.

Hafod Cottage is pet-friendly, welcoming up to two dogs, provided that owners bring necessary bedding and towels while ensuring that pets do not access furniture. It is crucial that dogs are not left unattended in the cottage. In 2020, a Woodland Pasture scheme was initiated on the property, introducing grazing cows to promote a diverse wildlife habitat. Guests may encounter cows along the track, and it is important to keep gates closed to maintain the safety of both animals and guests. The surrounding area is rich in natural attractions, including local landmarks like the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways and the picturesque Eryri National Park, making Hafod Cottage an excellent choice for a rural getaway.
