Old Coastguard Cottage

Looe, Cornwall

5

Located in the charming region of Looe, Cornwall, this inviting single-storey cottage offers breathtaking panoramic sea views that stretch from Rame Head in the east to Dodman Point in the west. Nestled just 50 yards above Downderry beach, the cottage is ideally positioned for beachgoers, with easy access to sandy shores and rock pools just a minute's walk down the hill. The surrounding village amenities, including a pub, post office, and restaurant, are conveniently close, making it an excellent spot for relaxation and exploration. For those seeking outdoor activities, golf and diving opportunities are available nearby, and a scenic 20-minute coastal walk leads to the twin village of Seaton.

This cottage, part of a historic row built for the old coastguard station in the early 1800s, retains much of its period charm with whitewashed walls and a traditional Delabole slate roof. With three bedrooms, it comfortably accommodates up to five guests, including four adults, one child, and an infant. However, it is important to note that the property does not allow pets and does not provide a cot for infants. The seaside town of Looe is a mere six miles away by road, while the picturesque harbor of Polperro is just ten miles away, offering additional attractions for visitors.

The cottage features a small sheltered courtyard equipped with a rotary line and a laundry room, which includes a second sink for convenience. The front lawn is level and extends to the edge of low cliffs, providing delightful views of the sea and beach below. Safety measures are in place, including boundary fences between the cottages and a sturdy three-foot high wire fence on the seaward side, making it suitable for families with young children, although supervision is advised. Guests can enjoy outdoor dining with provided barbecue facilities and garden furniture.

For those traveling by car, a private parking area is available approximately 20 yards from the cottage. While the property has a telephone for incoming calls, it does not facilitate outgoing calls. The combination of its prime location, historical character, and modern conveniences makes this cottage an ideal retreat for families or small groups looking to experience the beauty of Cornwall's coastline.
