Comfortable 3 Bedroom Historic Cottage C1700

Gainford, County Durham

5

Located in Gainford, County Durham, Barn House Mews is a quaint and tranquil holiday retreat that accommodates up to five guests across its three bedrooms. This unique property, originally built as a barn in the 1700s, is rich in history and offers a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for visitors. Just a stone's throw from the picturesque village green, guests can easily explore the charming historic houses that line the area. Additionally, the nearby river provides excellent opportunities for leisurely walks, picnics, and fishing, making it an ideal base for those looking to immerse themselves in the local environment.

Since acquiring Barn House Mews in March 2022, the owners have made significant improvements to enhance the guest experience. The property features all new furnishings, including nectar memory foam mattresses for added comfort. Guests will find the interiors freshly carpeted and adorned with new paint, decor, and curtains, complemented by luxurious 400 thread count Egyptian white bed linen. The kitchen is fully equipped with essential items, including stylish Denby crockery, and conveniences such as an iron and ironing board. For families traveling with young children, travel cots, stair gates, and high chairs are available upon request, ensuring a family-friendly environment.

The property boasts a secure courtyard with large entrance gates, providing guests with the option to close them for added privacy. While the owners typically do not frequent the courtyard during guest stays, they may be seen occasionally, particularly on bin collection days. It is important to note that due to the barn's historic design, the majority of the living space is located upstairs, making it less accessible for those with mobility challenges. Additionally, the open stairwell requires supervision of small children at all times to ensure their safety.

Situated in a rural area near Darlington, Barn House Mews offers guests a chance to explore the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape, including the Yorkshire Dales National Park and Windlestone Hall Country Park. For those seeking recreational activities, nearby attractions include the Blackwell Grange Golf Club and The Garage Spa. Guests interested in local events or sports can check out happenings at the Northern Echo Arena or Heritage Park Stadium, providing a well-rounded experience during their stay in this charming cottage.
