Tyn Cellar Cottage - 2 Bedroom Self Catering

Margam, Glamorgan

4

Situated in Margam, Glamorgan, this charming Grade II listed barn has been meticulously refurbished to serve as a self-catering holiday cottage that accommodates up to four guests. Retaining its original 1880s features, such as the rustic beams in the bedrooms, the cottage offers a unique blend of historical charm and modern comfort. The ground floor boasts an open-plan layout that includes a fully equipped kitchen, a dining area, and a spacious living space. Additionally, a large wet room is conveniently located on this level, along with a rear door that opens onto an expansive patio area, perfect for outdoor relaxation.

On the first floor, guests will find two double bedrooms, each furnished with super king or twin bed options, and a separate toilet. The bedrooms are illuminated by Velux windows, allowing natural light to fill the space. Amenities include freeview TV and Wi-Fi, while the cottage benefits from underfloor heating powered by a biomass boiler on the ground floor, and thermostatic controlled radiators in the bedrooms. Notably, the oak flooring in the bedrooms has been sustainably sourced from a local school that was being demolished, adding to the eco-friendly credentials of the cottage.

This property is part of Tyn Cellar Farm, a site rich in history, having once belonged to Margam Abbey dating back to the 1200s. The farm and its cottages are Grade 4 listed by Visit Wales, and records of tenants farming the land can be traced back to 1536. While some properties have been updated to retain Victorian characteristics, all cottages are equipped with modern conveniences such as underfloor heating, free Wi-Fi, and fully fitted kitchens. Guests also have access to a heated drying room for wet gear, secure storage for bikes and golf clubs, and a community hall that hosts various events and yoga classes.

Located in Port Talbot, the cottage is ideally positioned for those interested in outdoor activities and local attractions. Nearby golf clubs, including Lakeside Golf Club and Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club, offer recreational opportunities, while Surf School Wales and Bridgend Miniature Railway provide family-friendly attractions. For those seeking adventure, options such as windsurfing, sailing, horse riding, and cycling are readily available. The area also features local events and sports activities, such as at Laserzone or St Helens Rugby and Cricket Ground, ensuring guests have a variety of options to enjoy during their stay.
