The Old School - Sleeps 4 Guests In 2 Bedrooms

Edlingham, Northumberland

4

A beautifully appointed former school set amidst rolling Northumbrian countryside.

A wonderful base for exploring Northumberland's Heritage coast and surrounding countryside

Renovated to an exceptionally high standard throughout, the meticulously presented interior of this spacious former school is a testament to the owner's attention to detail. Art by local artists and commissioned sculptures by Peter Sales reflect the myriad local wildlife, there's handmade Danish crockery, a stone bath tub and basin, waterfall granite worktop and even embossed wooden coat hangers bearing the property name.

Outside, an attractive fully-enclosed garden includes a sheltered barbecue area with fire pit.

The ancient village of Edlingham has a recorded history going back as far as 737. It is home to a medieval (11th century) Church and a 13th-century castle with 16th-century battlements and defences. The Edlingham Railway Viaduct (now private), is a local landmark, dating from around 1885. More recently a view of the village and viaduct taken from nearby Corby Craggs featured in the official poster used to promote the film of The Hobbit.

The house is incredibly well-placed for exploring coast and country. Just six miles from Alnwick with its internationally renowned castle and garden, seven miles from the charming market town of Rothbury and 11 miles to the swathe of golden sand at Alnmouth beach.

Located in Alnwick, this cottage is in a rural area. Willowburn Sports and Leisure Centre and Alnmouth Village Golf Club are worth checking out if an activity is on the agenda, while those wishing to experience the area's natural beauty can explore Northumberland Coast and Cragside Country Park. Lilidorei at The Alnwick Garden and Eshott Heugh Animal Park are also worth visiting. Be sure to check out the area's animals with activities such as game walks and birdwatching.
