The Retreat, located in Branscombe, Devon, is a purpose-built holiday property that caters specifically to wheelchair users, designed by Rosemary, an ex-nurse, and completed in 2013. Nestled in a tranquil valley, the site has a rich history dating back to the 9th Century, and is managed by the Maggs family, who reside on-site with their border collie, Star. This pet-friendly accommodation comfortably sleeps four guests across two bedrooms and is conveniently situated just a mile from the A3052 coast road, making it easily accessible to nearby villages, towns, and various amenities.

This eco-friendly retreat is constructed using locally sourced timber and craftsmanship, featuring solar-powered electricity and heat-exchange underfloor heating. The property boasts its own spring water supply and practices sustainability by composting waste and maintaining two beehives in the vegetable garden. Inside, the master bedroom includes an en-suite wetroom equipped with disabled-access features, while the twin-bedded room also has its own en-suite shower room. Both bedrooms offer ample storage and essential amenities, ensuring a comfortable stay for all guests.

The open-plan living area of The Retreat combines a kitchen, dining space, and lounge, with large folding doors that open up to a decked area overlooking the picturesque valley. This outdoor space is perfect for relaxing on sunny days and includes a private fenced lawn area for pets. For entertainment, guests can enjoy a 32-inch TV with a DVD player, a library of over 30 DVDs, as well as books and board games. Additionally, free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, enhancing the convenience for visitors.

Surrounded by the natural beauty of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, The Retreat offers a serene and inspiring environment, ideal for artists and those seeking a peaceful getaway. The location provides opportunities for outdoor activities, including cycling, hiking, sailing, and fishing. For larger groups, three additional holiday homes are also available on-site, making it an excellent choice for family reunions or gatherings with friends.
