Located about 1¼ miles from Stoke Gabriel in the picturesque South West of England, the Boathouse offers a unique retreat on the Sandridge Barton estate. Originally built in 1760 as a bathing house, this charming property is set in a secluded and romantic location where the River Dart winds between Stoke Gabriel and Dittisham. Access to the Boathouse requires a scenic 600-yard walk through a gentle valley and wooded area, with luggage transport provided by Landrover to the top of the 71 steps leading down to the property.
Upon entering the Boathouse, guests are greeted by an exquisitely designed living space that boasts oak flooring and large, water-reflecting ceilings. The expansive room features floor-to-ceiling French windows that open fully to reveal a stunning balcony and river view. This seamless connection to the outdoors enhances the overall ambiance, making it a perfect spot for relaxation and enjoyment of the natural surroundings.
The first floor of the Boathouse houses two beautifully appointed bedrooms, each with high ceilings and exposed beams. One bedroom features a super king-size double bed with an en suite bathroom and French windows that lead to a small balcony, while the second bedroom offers a charming twin setup. The property is further complemented by a wide, covered balcony that provides an ideal setting for al fresco dining, surrounded by lush woods and the serene waters of the river.
While the Boathouse offers a tranquil escape, guests will find plenty of activities and attractions nearby. The village of Stoke Gabriel features three pubs, shops, and a restaurant, along with a quay perfect for crabbing. Sandy beaches at Torbay, the quirky town of Totnes just four miles away, and ferry access to Dartmouth enhance the area's appeal. Visitors can also explore the National Trust's Greenway and Coleton Fishacre. Regardless of the chosen activities, a stay at this enchanting Boathouse promises an unforgettable holiday experience.
