Town: The village of Skipsea, which is located 10 miles south of Bridlington and 6 miles north of Hornsea, is in a generally rural environment surrounded by fertile agricultural area. Cobbles from the seashore are used in the construction of many of the village's homes, both ancient and new. The ruins of Skipsea Castle are located just outside the hamlet. Sledmere House, Burton Constable Hall, the Deep Submarium at Hull, and the North Yorks Moors Steam Railway at Pickering are all within 20 miles of Skipsea. The shops, cathedral, and museum of historic York, the resort town of Scarborough, and the North Yorks Moors Steam Railway at Pickering are all within an hour's drive, and Whitby is only a short distance away.
