Fraser Cottage, part of the Dunmore Cottages estate, is nestled on 120 acres of serene land along the shores of West Loch Tarbert in South Knapdale, Scotland. Located just seven miles from the charming fishing village of Tarbert on Loch Fyne, the cottage provides a tranquil retreat for guests. Since its acquisition by new owners in 2015/16, there has been a dedicated effort to renovate the self-catering cottages, with Fraser Cottage itself receiving a complete makeover by December 2018. The renovation has earned it a prestigious 5-star rating from Visit Scotland, affirming its status as a luxurious getaway infused with a homely atmosphere.
This traditional two-storey stone cottage comfortably accommodates four guests, featuring two ensuite bedrooms on the upper floor, equipped with modern showers and underfloor heating. The master bedroom boasts a king-size bed, while the second bedroom contains two single beds. On the ground floor, guests will find a fully equipped kitchen and dining area, complete with high-end appliances like a dishwasher and Nespresso coffee machine. The cozy living room, highlighted by a wood-burning stove, offers a welcoming space to unwind, complemented by a 4k curved screen TV. The patio doors extend to a terrace furnished with outdoor seating, a gas BBQ, and a wood-burning heater, leading into a garden area where visitors can enjoy stunning views of passing ferries to Islay.
The estate is steeped in history, named after a Bronze Age fort perched atop cliffs that provide breathtaking vistas of the West Loch and surrounding islands, including Gigha and Islay, known for its whisky production. Dunmore Cottages serve as an ideal vacation spot, offering both relaxation by the open fires and a plethora of outdoor activities. With hiking trails, opportunities for wildlife observation, and nearby sandy beaches like Loch Stornoway and Westport, guests can immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the area.
