Historians will love exploring the rooms at Dalemain, an impressive stately home 8.5 miles away, whilst the gothic ruins of Lowther Castle, 12 miles away, are well worth a visit. For keen hikers and hillwalkers tackling Helvellyn, one of the highest mountains in the Lake District is a must, and the pretty woodland and tumbling waterfalls at Aira Force (4.5 miles) are just stunning. For some retail therapy, head to either Penrith or Keswick, both within 10 miles and both offering independent retailers, pubs, cafes and restaurants.
