The Garden Cottage sits in its own walled garden in a tiny hamlet on the fringe of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. The idyllic location provides total peace and tranquility yet is only 4 miles from Thirsk and 20 miles from York. Thirsk has a bustling market twice a week and a monthly livestock market where you can see the local Yorkshire farmers buying and selling their livestock. If fine dining is something you enjoy, potter off to Tommy Banks renowned Michelin starred restaurant The Black Swan , only four miles away. If a cosy country pub is more your scene, where you can sit in front of roaring log fire in muddy wellies, or in a flower filled beer garden, the choice is endless! In fact North Yorkshire is known for its fabulous pubs and home produced food.If you fancy country walks, there is an vast choice of routes, both long and short, stopping off at pubs along the way or keep completely away from all signs of humanity and walk where you re unlikely to see a soul. Situated just two miles from the Sutton Bank Visitor Centre where the new Dark Skies Observatory is set to be launched, providing a truly immersive star gazing experience. The cottage is a short drive from two glorious abbey ruins, Rievaulx and Byland and a further drive from the world heritage site of Fountains Abbey. If you fancy a day out at the seaside, the coast is an easy day trip away, from the charming seaside town of Filey, north up through to Whitby. The cottage is approached through the garden, hence it's name. Follow the path through the beautifully kept and lovingly designed flower and vegetable beds. Step into the vestibule and hang your coat and head through into the cottage which is furnished with an eclectic mix of antique and artisan, stylish design led pieces, which together create a truly relaxing, homely and fascinating place to stay. The lounge is a really cosy place with a wood burner and Smart TV, ideal for curling up to watch a movie. If reading a book in peaceful surroundings is what you are after then this is the perfect spot. Head through to the brand new for 2020 kitchen, superbly equipped with electric hob/double oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and a bread maker. Gather at the breakfast table for mealtimes or head outside to dine in the gorgeous garden. There are two bedrooms to choose from; the "landscape room" with super king size zip and link (which can be made into a twin upon request) or the "portrait room" with same super king size zip and link and en suite shower room with WC. In the separate bathroom, relax in a hot bath after a long day exploring the Yorkshire countryside, feeling utterly relaxed and "away from it all". The garden is a real feature of the cottage, with shrub and herbaceous borders and gorgeous sustainable teak dining furniture for al fresco meals. The typical cottage garden style planting provides a mix of fruit, vegetables and flowers, with cherry trees, shrubs and bulbs, all topped off with a little alpine rock garden and some bonsai! It s a true delight for those who enjoy a beautiful garden. Guests can enjoy the chance to collect eggs from our five friendly hens and are welcome to harvest and eat any of the vegetables that are ready during your stay at the cottage. If a quiet walk through a private wild flower meadow to a beautiful picnic spot is your kind of thing you re welcome to wander around Home Field . Look out for hares and wild deer and in the evenings the owls and badgers whilst soaking up the spectacular views. There is off road parking available for two cars.
