Buttermere Cottage, located in the picturesque Lorton Vale just three miles from Cockermouth and Lorton in Cumbria, is an eco-friendly ground floor retreat designed to accommodate up to four guests. Built in 2007 by the owner using local barn timber, this cottage beautifully blends rustic charm with modern sustainability features, including underfloor heating and solar panels. The property is one of four eco-friendly accommodations on site, each providing a serene getaway while maintaining a small carbon footprint, making it an ideal choice for environmentally conscious travelers.

The cottage is designed for accessibility, with all rooms on the ground floor, featuring two spacious double bedrooms, one of which is wheelchair-friendly. Guests will also find a well-maintained shower room and a drying cupboard, which is particularly beneficial during winter visits. The open-plan kitchen, dining, and lounge area is fully equipped with an electric oven, fridge/freezer, and a cozy wood-burning stove, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay for all visitors.

Stepping outside, guests can enjoy a lovely terrace area furnished for relaxation on sunny days. The property offers private parking for one car, with additional parking available across the stream. Buttermere Cottage serves as a perfect base for exploring the surrounding area, with attractions such as Wordsworth's House and local art galleries in Cockermouth, as well as adventurous activities like the Go Ape circuit in Braithwaite. For those willing to travel a bit further, Carlisle Castle is just an hour's drive away.

Set on ten acres of beautifully maintained land, Buttermere Cottage is enveloped by newly planted woodland, a wildlife meadow, a pond, and an arboretum, providing ample opportunities for wildlife spotting, including deer, foxes, and barn owls. While the cottage offers a cozy atmosphere for quiet evenings and countryside walks, it is important to note that the natural slate flooring may pose challenges for wheelchair users, and the paths in the grounds are not suitable for wheelchairs. For larger groups, the property can be booked alongside three other cottages, accommodating up to 18 guests in total.
