Seahouses offers a wide array of facilities including tearooms, restaurants, pubs, shops and of course the fish and chip shops! Boat trips to the Farne Islands run from the pretty harbour; the islands are famous for their nesting seabirds and grey seal colonies. Horse riding is available on the cusp of the village, and there is an impressive golf course on the links close by. The picture postcard village of Bamburgh, protected by its dramatic fortress, is only two miles north with its wide expanse of golden, and often empty, sandy beaches, and where the tidal island of Lindisfarne, locally known as Holy Island and one of the most important centres of early English Christianity, can be viewed. A further two miles up the coastline brings you to Waren Mill, which is steeped in history. Once an important port, its harbour has long since disappeared, silted up beneath the sands of the estuary. Visit Budle Bay, a bird sanctuary, where at low tide a vast expanse of mud flats is home to countless thousands of sea and land birds, making this location a haven for bird watchers.
The market town of Alnwick, with its own majestic castle, cobbled streets and friendly locals, offers many facilities a few miles inland. The Alnwick Garden is a popular visitor attraction, with its grand cascade waterfall and restaurant set within the largest tree house in Europe. Rainy days discover Barter Books one of the largest second-hand stores in England with a gorgeous café and cosy quirky interior. Beach ½ mile.
