The Threshing Barn is a charming three-story cottage located in Kington, Herefordshire, in the picturesque Heart of England region. Designed to accommodate two guests, this characterful retreat features painted stone walls and expansive countryside views. The interior boasts a high ceiling adorned with exposed oak beams, creating an inviting atmosphere. A cozy mezzanine balcony bedroom nestled in the eaves offers a unique sleeping experience. The cottage is equipped with a kitchen, dining room, and living room, along with modern amenities such as a Smart TV, free Wi-Fi, and an en suite bathroom with both bath and shower facilities. Additionally, guests can enjoy the convenience of parking and an electric car charging point, along with a welcome hamper upon arrival.
This delightful cottage is situated within the grounds of Penrhos Court, a stunning Grade II star listed half-timbered manor house that dates back to 1280. Renowned food critic AA Gill once described Penrhos as "a breathtakingly beautiful small hotel, organically folded into some of the most pretty and fibrous country in England." The former hotel wing has been thoughtfully transformed into seven boutique self-catering cottages and one bed and breakfast suite, allowing guests to experience the charm and history of the estate. Penrhos Court has a rich legacy, having hosted rock legends such as Led Zeppelin and Queen, and it is known for being one of the rehearsal studios for the iconic song "Bohemian Rhapsody."
In addition to its musical history, Penrhos has been a favored retreat for various notable figures, including Mike Oldfield, who was often seen playing guitar by the large inglenook fireplace in what is now The Cattle Shed Cafe, an award-winning eatery on-site. The manor has also welcomed former American presidents, Sir Paul McCartney, and members of Monty Python, who would visit to support their co-star Terry Jones, who opened one of the first microbreweries in the area during the 1970s. This rich tapestry of history adds to the allure of staying at The Threshing Barn.
Guests at The Threshing Barn can explore local landmarks such as Saint Stephen's Church and Judge's Lodging, while outdoor enthusiasts can take advantage of nearby activities like the Ticknock Mountain Bike Trails and The Herefordshire Golf Club. Small Breeds Farm Park and Owl Centre, as well as Hergest Croft Gardens, are also popular attractions in the vicinity. Whether guests choose to hit the golf course or embark on hiking and cycling adventures, The Threshing Barn offers a perfect base for experiencing the natural beauty and vibrant culture of the Herefordshire countryside.
