Isle Of North Uist, Outer Hebrides, Na h-Eileanan an Iar

Kettle Cottage, known as "Taigh a Choire" in Gaelic, is a charming traditional croft house located in the scenic township of Tigharry on the west coast of the Isle of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. Newly renovated in 2017, this cozy one-bedroom cottage accommodates up to two guests and is pet-friendly, welcoming up to two well-behaved dogs. The spacious bedroom can also fit an additional folding bed or cot for a child, making it an ideal getaway for small families or couples looking for a retreat.

The inviting kitchen and living room area feature a log-burning stove, with locally cut peat provided for a warm and relaxing atmosphere after a day of exploring the island. The cottage's elevated position offers breathtaking views over Hoglan Bay and the nearby RSPB Balranald Nature Reserve, which is just a mile to the south. This nature reserve is a significant attraction on the island, known for being a breeding ground for various ground-nesting birds like the Ringed Plover, Oystercatcher, and the elusive Corncrake, making it a haven for birdwatchers.

The cottage derives its name from the nearby natural arch and blowhole, the “Spouting Kettle” or “Slochd a Choire” in Gaelic, where powerful Atlantic storms create spectacular spouts of water. The surrounding headland features an excellent coastal walking route that provides uninterrupted views of the Monach Isles and the St Kilda World Heritage Site, located 46 miles to the west. Additionally, Traigh Stìr or Hosta Beach, known for its surfing opportunities, is just a short walk to the north, further enhancing the outdoor experience available to visitors.

Set in a rural area close to the beach, Kettle Cottage offers a peaceful retreat while being conveniently located near attractions like the Lochmaddy Ferry Terminal and North Uist Distillery for those seeking local activities. Nature enthusiasts can explore the stunning landscapes of the Balranald RSPB Reserve, while fishing, hiking, biking trails, and mountain biking provide ample opportunities for adventure. This idyllic location combines natural beauty, wildlife observation, and a cozy atmosphere, making it a perfect destination for anyone looking to experience the charm of the Outer Hebrides.
