Oughtershaw Hall is a stunning detached country estate located in the picturesque hamlet of Hawes, Lancashire, within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This magnificent property, which can accommodate up to 16 guests across its eight beautifully-styled bedrooms, boasts a rich history and a wealth of original features. Originally a medieval farmhouse rumored to have hosted Charles I, it was transformed into a shooting lodge in the 1850s. Nestled among tranquil woodlands at an elevation of 1000 feet, the estate showcases intricate stained glass windows, detailed stonework, and an antique guest book dating back to the mid-18th century, providing a glimpse into its storied past.
Upon entering through the impressive stone loggia, guests are welcomed into a labyrinth of winding passageways adorned with stone-flagged floors. The estate features four distinct seating areas, each offering a unique atmosphere for relaxation. Guests can unwind in front of the roaring open fire in the drawing room or gather around the woodburning stove in the sitting room, which is enhanced by stunning stained glass windows depicting family coats of arms and a historical oak table inscribed by a previous owner. The cosy library, with the soothing sounds of a nearby beck, and the snug off the kitchen provide additional spaces for socializing and enjoying the warmth of the home.
The heart of Oughtershaw Hall is its expansive L-shaped open-plan kitchen, equipped with a spacious breakfast bar and a dining table that seats the entire party. The kitchen also features built-in window seating and a utility area, along with a separate boot room housing an 8-seater sauna. For entertainment, the basement games room offers a perfect retreat for guests of all ages. The first floor houses seven elegantly designed bedrooms, many featuring charming fireplaces and luxurious en-suites, while the ground-floor bedroom is ideal for guests with limited mobility, boasting an en-suite shower room.
Beyond the main house, guests can enjoy the superb indoor heated swimming pool, complete with bespoke windows and a lofty beamed roof. The gardens are accessible through the grand entrance hall, leading to breathtaking views of Oughtershaw Beck and the surrounding landscape. Scenic footpaths meander from the doorstep through lush valleys, ideal for picnics and exploring the natural beauty of the area.
