Situated in East Anstey, Devon, this unique cottage offers a spacious accommodation option for up to 16 guests, featuring five bedrooms. Originally a cattle shed, the building underwent a transformation in the 1970s, first serving as a workshop and later as a bungalow for individuals with learning disabilities and their support staff. The cottage is fully wheelchair accessible, boasting wide doorways, accessible toilets, and no steps, making it an inclusive choice for all visitors.
The interior of the cottage includes six bedrooms with bunk beds in two family rooms, and additional beds can be requested to accommodate larger groups. Guests can enjoy two lounges for relaxation, a large kitchen/diner for communal meals, and ample parking space for four cars outside. While the cottage has been renovated and freshly painted, ongoing restoration work, particularly on the exterior and in certain locked rooms, has led to a 25% reduction in rental prices. This provides an opportunity for visitors to enjoy a comfortable stay at a lower cost while the final touches are completed.
In addition to the cottage, the family is also working on renovating the adjacent building, which will become the Blackerton Ecocentre. This project adds an element of intrigue for guests, although some construction work may be ongoing. The surrounding area is rich in natural beauty, with local landmarks such as the Tarr Steps Clapper Bridge and Caratacus Stone, as well as the stunning landscapes of Exmoor National Park and Grand Western Canal Country Park, making it an ideal location for nature lovers.
For families traveling with children, there are various activities to enjoy, including North Devon Hawk Walks and events at Rock and Rapid Adventures. The region offers a wealth of opportunities for outdoor activities such as cycling, hunting, and ecotours, ensuring that guests can fully immerse themselves in the rural charm of the South West of England. This cottage not only provides a comfortable and accessible stay but also serves as a gateway to explore the diverse attractions of the area.
