Danby Lodge is a remarkable Grade II listed property nestled in the heart of the Royal Forest of Dean, located in Yorkley, Gloucestershire. Originally commissioned by Charles II on the advice of Samuel Pepys, this six-bedroom lodge accommodates up to 14 guests, making it an ideal retreat for families or groups. The property features a stunning King Charles Oak in its extensive gardens, a swimming pool, and a hot tub, ensuring a luxurious stay. Additionally, its pet-friendly policy allows guests to bring their furry companions along to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Upon arrival, guests can park in the private grounds and explore the characterful interior of the lodge. The living and dining area boasts an Ingelnook open fireplace, complemented by hand-carved oak beams and tasteful furnishings. The contemporary kitchen, equipped with a dining table for shared meals, leads into a cozy dining hall and sitting area, perfect for gatherings by the fire. The lodge also includes various spaces for relaxation, such as an office, a library with a secret door leading to an additional bedroom, a snug on the second floor, and a cinema room for movie nights.
Each of the six bedrooms is thoughtfully designed, featuring original oak beams and views of the surrounding gardens. The second floor offers two super-king bedrooms, one with an en-suite bathroom, while the first floor houses four additional bedrooms, including another super-king with an en-suite shower, a zip/link super-king that can be converted to a twin, and a double bedroom. A family bathroom with a large tub and shower enhances the comfort of the accommodation, catering to the needs of all guests.
Outside, the expansive gardens provide a perfect setting for alfresco dining, as well as a chance to enjoy the swimming pool and hot tub.
